I have been able to gain skills through communication in relation to analysis. Fortunately, my courses, as well as past jobs, have given me experience in these areas as well. I am thankful for the variety of opportunities I have been given and below, you will be able to read as well as see a few examples of how I have used analysis in relation to communication.
Within my major, we are given the opportunity to take courses that are offered within our college, but not necessarily for our major. I chose to take Social Media and Public Relations. During this course, we were given the assignment of a social media audit. We were told to pick any company that sparked our interest and being someone that loves music, I chose Spotify! This assignment was a wonderful opportunity to learn how to analyze data related to a company that I was unfamiliar with in that regard. For example, I was able to look at demographics related to Spotify and instruct them on how they could better their company. This assignment made me think about different parts of a business, why this business would use a specific platform, and how they desire to engage with their customers. This allowed me to change the way I look at social media as a whole, for example, each business has a different desire and tactic. For the future, I feel as though this will be incredibly useful in the fact that I would have an easier time analyzing information that could help better future employers and their companies.

In a course called Research in Rhetoric and Social Influence, we learned about persuasion, narrative paradigm, and rhetoric. Alongside these topics, we focused on the importance of visual, verbal, and literary aids that assist in the persuasion of those around us. We were given the opportunity to pick a topic of our choosing and relate it to what we were learning in class. For my research paper, I chose “Communication Strategies: How Digital Communication Encourages Altruism in the Church”. During this paper, I contacted three different churches in Auburn, AL. Throughout my research, I visited their websites in hopes of gaining information on how to encourage the members of their churches to serve as well as contacted leadership within each church by way of email and phone conversation. Each church represented service in a variety of ways, including international, local, and even within the church. I found it important to know what grabs people’s attention as well as what encouraged them to volunteer. After gathering my research, I was able to communicate my findings by way of a research paper.
In a Strategic Communications course, we focused on crisis and how to handle it within a business. For this course, we were given a crisis at the beginning of the semester and by the end, we had to perform a fake press conference. During this project, I had to analyze the crisis that my company faced and how I would fix the problem without making it bigger. When it comes to crisis, we have to remember to take things seriously as well as manage it professionally. When a crisis happens, there will be more problems to face and fortunately, we were able to imitate that. During the course of the project, we were given “hiccups” to resemble reality and the domino effect that crisis often has on a company. While analyzing the crisis, we came up with a plan to handle the problem, a schedule on how to implement changes, as well as a press conference that would give us the opportunity to speak publicly about the crisis. This was a wonderful experience because I was able to analyze a different type of information that wasn’t number focused, but word and human-focused. As a result of the project, I was also able to learn how to communicate with people publicly and professionally.

From May of 2018 to July of 2019, I worked for Strawn & Co., Insurance as a Marketing Associate. During this job, I was given the task of getting people’s personal information as well as the customer's motor vehicle records. With this information, I would put it into our online system that would then analyze their information. Once the system finished working through the customer's information, I would write down the quotes given. After I analyzed the numbers, we were encouraged to choose the lowest price available, but we also desired to make sure the customers were given the best insurance coverage. Once I chose the preferred insurance company, I was able to “finish the quote”, which entails retrieving more information specific to the customer as well as including information based on the coverage they desired. During this job, I learned communication by way of data entry, analysis, and verbal communication with the customer. I feel as though these skills have really encouraged me in the fact that I can quickly learn skills on the computer as well. Due to privacy concerns, I am unable to attach links as a visual, but through this job, I gained skills on AMS360, EZLynz, as well as the ability to navigate many company websites.
